ah, penland.

Just returned from a lovely trip to Asheville, Celo and Penland. Lots of art, new contacts, and even some old friends.
Images of some of my favorites later this week.

Penland is such a great place. I turned down a job there years ago and regretted it ever since! A European papermaker's studio had burned down while using cardboard and heated air for drying. They called me with three weeks notice, and it conflicted with a Wake County summer camp job. I was an idiot and said no. Penland is a refuge, a creative cauldron and a professional platform all at once. It has had enormous impact on our state and, conversely, NC's standing in the national arts community.
Hey, I'm so glad I found your blog! You are one of the highlights of the alternative arts scene in Raleigh. Great to see your stuff!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about Penland, John. I really miss it, and wish that I could steal away from Raleigh for another two months and get back there for another Concentration.
North Carolina is lucky to have it, and I'm lucky to get to visit and be inspired by all the school and surrounding community has to offer.
