Some quick thoughts:
- Brooklyn and bits I've never seen before (Red Hook, Greenpoint)
- subways-- wish we had 'em in a big way!
- also: walking non-stop
- great signs
- things that haven't changed (neat shops and restaurants that seem to have been around since the beginning of time, Polish everything in Greenpoint, beautiful old buildings)
- things that have changed (new + old merged, the palimpsest of signs on buildings that were once this, and now that)
- walking "home" over the Williamsburg Bridge
- spotting the Statue of Liberty on the train from Park Slope
- meeting all kinds of nice new people
- being in the city for their first day of beautiful spring weather
some other favorite things:
Dumont - yummy food (crispy artichoke salad--yowza!-- and the burger--wow) and SO beautiful.
Monkeytown - also great food, and a space for video/performance art! We saw Food Party by Thu Tran. It was awesome.
Erie Basin - the most beautiful shop, ever, with a superbly curated collection of antique and contemporary jewelry.
Most of all, it was wonderful to see old friends who are happy and loving their new city-lives. Thanks to Candace for her wonderful and gracious hostess-ing!

My plan-B life is New York. Maybe in my next incarnation. Good itinerary for your trip.
