First Friday version 03.08, part 3

5. Here Be Monsters: An Abridged Bestiary of Contemporary Monsters, Both Real and Imagined. @ Flanders 311

With a title like that, and an amazing roster of artists, this exhibition is sure to fascinate.

It reminds me a bit of a show that was at Penland a few years ago titled Beasties: Animals in Translation though its focus was a bit different. Both ideas seem really fun to curate.

The participating artists are Julie Armbruster, Owen Beckmann, Gigi Chen, Asya Dodina, David Eichenberger, Seth Ellis, Fort Grunt, Paul Friedrich, André Leon Gray, David Isele, Alison Overton, Slava Polischuk, Shaun Richards, Anthony Santella, and Megan Sullivan. You can read more at their site.

through April 2 , 2008, 311 West Martin Street, Raleigh, NC, open First Friday 6-9 p.m. Regular gallery hours run 11 a.m.- 6 p.m., Tues - Sat.

6. Jeanine Oleson, Urd Up @ Lump Gallery

Lump never disappoints, so it's always a good idea to check out what's there. Since I don't know much about this exhibition or the artist, click on over to the N&O where Michelle Natale's done a great job writing about it. Hopefully this is another that I'll be able to report back on later this month.
Lump is open First Fridays and Saturdays from 12-5. 505. South Blount Street.

That's all for now. Click on over to New Raleigh to catch up the rest.

*I finally got a new camera, so hopefully the pictures will be back in full force soon!
